licenSINGER
Find the licences you pay for and nobody uses.
Microsoft bills every seat, whether anyone is using it or not. licenSINGER reads your tenant and lists the licences costing you money for nothing, person by person, then tells you what that adds up to a year.
Coming soon. Free to try, read-only, and bought once if you want the detail.
- In use?
- Paid for, assigned to nobody?
- On accounts that are blocked?
- No sign-in for 90 days?
Every licence, singing for its supper
Licence waste hides in a handful of places. licenSINGER will look in all of them, every time, and group what it finds by reason, so each one comes with its own obvious fix.
licenSINGER is being built now. This is what it will find.Seats bought, nobody on them
For every licence you subscribe to, the number you pay for against the number actually assigned.
Often left over from a renewal that was sized for a plan, not for people.Licences on blocked accounts
People who were blocked from signing in when they left, but never had their licences taken off. The classic leak.
Each one is a full seat for someone who cannot use it.Nobody home
Licensed people with no sign-in for as long as you choose, so you can check before the renewal rather than after it.
Long-term leave, secondments, accounts nobody remembers making.Last email in and out
Optionally, when each account last sent and received mail. A shared mailbox wearing a full licence stands out at once.
A shared mailbox under 50 GB does not need a licence at all.Paying twice for the same thing
Standalone plans stacked on suites that already include them, such as Exchange Online Plan 1 on someone who already has E3.
Usually added in a hurry once and never looked at again. The number
Enter what each licence costs you, and the list becomes a monthly and yearly figure, by reason and by licence, ready to export.
The figure you take to whoever signs the renewal. It reads. It never writes.
licenSINGER is built to look, not touch. There is no button in it that can remove a licence, so it is safe to run on day one, in any tenant, by anyone with a read-only role.
A read-only role is enough
Sign in as yourself with a role such as Global Reader. licenSINGER can only ever see what that role can see, and cannot change anything at all.
Your app, your tenant
Like every ScryMarc tool, you register it in your own Entra tenant, once. No third-party app, no partner relationship, nothing of ours that could lapse.
No server, no telemetry
It runs on your machine and talks to Microsoft and nothing else. Your licence data never comes anywhere near us.
Find it here. Fix it there.
licenSINGER finds the waste and stops. When you are ready to reclaim seats, its sibling INFOtemper changes access the careful way.
- Unassigned seats, blocked accounts, idle people
- Plans paid for twice
- A costed list to export
- Snapshot before every change
- Removals behind a typed confirmation
- A checked audit log, and restore

Questions
Can it remove licences for me?
No, on purpose. licenSINGER is read-only so it is safe to run anywhere. Reclaim seats yourself from what it finds, or use INFOtemper, which snapshots first and keeps a way back.
What access does it need?
A read-only role such as Global Reader, and an app registration in your own tenant, created once. Last sign-in dates come from Microsoft's sign-in activity, which needs Entra ID P1; that is included in Microsoft 365 E3, E5 and Business Premium.
Does it send my data anywhere?
No. It runs on your machine and talks to Microsoft's own services as you. There is no ScryMarc server and no telemetry.
Why the name?
Licence-ing, and a licence singer. Every licence should sing for its supper.
When is it out?
It is being built now, on the same foundations as INFOtemper. Get notified and you will hear first, with the free version on day one.
